Celestra Series Blog Tour: Addison Moore's Top Ten Writing Snacks @AddisonMoore

Hi all! Addison Moore here! While I’m writing I need lots of tackling fuel, and when I say tackling fuel, I mean snacks. Here’s a top 10 list of my favorite go-to yummy treats that help get my characters where they need to be. In no particular order:

1.    Twizzlers! (I know, it’s almost cliche, right? But can you blame me? I like both strawberry and cherry but currently I have cherry bites next to me—so right now they’re my favorite-est)
2.    Sushi! (Can I have this for every single meal? In my dream world I have a sushi chef in the kitchen, whipping up a steady steam of awesome cut rolls just for me. Ok, well, I’d probably share with the fam. Probably.)
3.    Starbucks! Yes, please. Sadly they know me by name at my local Bux. That was actually a shocking and sad day for me when I realized this because I knew right then I was $pending way too much on my coffee addiction. My go-to drink is a venti iced mocha, decaf (yes, it’s true) with whip cream—because why not?
4.    CHOCOLATE. (I can’t help it. I wasn’t always this way. Believe it or not there was a day when I could take or leave the coveted coco. But as time goes on I’m more convinced I’ll live a longer happier life if I partake in this sacred, and quasi-nutritional food group. My favorite is dark with nuts—hazelnuts or almonds will do. I love Sees, Reesse’s peanut butter cups and Godiva if you’re taking notes ;)
5.    Fruit. (See? It’s not all bad. Although I tend to go overboard on occasion like the time I ate my weight in blueberries and broke out in a hideous rash from head to toe. I now have to be very cautious when eating blueberries, so I don’t go into anaphylactic shock. Yeah, my body went there.)
6.    Ice Cream. (*mmm* Just thinking about the frozen confection has me moaning. I’m an equal opportunity connoisseur, so I really don’t have a favorite flavor but I have been known to get chocolate peanut butter over and over. Although I will say some chocolate flavors taste like dirt (sorry if I offended anyone!) So I’m really careful about chocolate. But Rite-Aid’s Chocolate malted crunch is a must have.
7.    Pizza (My mom is right, I eat like a thirteen-year-old. I don’t need to have pizza every day but every now and again there’s nothing like a warm, saucy pizza with extra mushroom and olives. Super yum!)
8.    Cheesecake! (Because duh, yum, right? I love all cheesecakes but I especially like red velvet from the Cheesecake Factory. It really is the best.)
9.     Taco Bell! (In a perfect world I’d have a Dorrito’s Locos taco Every. Single. Day.)
10.    A fresh glazed donut. (Confession. I rarely ever get these, but, when I do, it’s a glimpse into Heaven. This much I know is true.)

And there it is—my caloric top ten! Hope you enjoyed the list and I hope you’ll enjoy the Celestra Series even more! Have fun with Skyla and the gang, above all happy reading~!

Ethereal by Addison Moore is book #1 in the Celestra Series.

Sixteen year-old, Skyla Messenger is a dead girl walking.

When her newly remarried mother moves the family to Paragon Island, to a house that is rumored to be haunted, Skyla finds refuge in Logan Oliver, a boy who shares her unique ability to read minds.

Skyla discovers Logan holds the answers to the questions she’s been looking for, but Logan’s reluctance to give her the knowledge she desires leaves her believing Logan has a few secrets of his own.

Skyla’s bloodlines may just be connected to the most powerful angelic beings that roam the earth, and the more she knows, the more danger she seems to be in.

Suddenly an entire faction of earthbound angels wants her dead, at least she still has Logan, or does she?

Humiliation burned in her.

Rejection turned her blood to ice while her skin shrank down about two sizes too small.

She wanted to sink into the floorboards, turn into something thin and vaporous so she could just disappear.

Pushing against his chest, she focused on the navy blue polo.  “Then how about you let me go, huh?  My mistake.”

The hand on her throat didn’t move.

It should have felt threatening.

But the feel of him touching her just made her melt that much more…and it was now a heavy ache inside because he—

His lips brushed her ear.

“You want to know what I want from you?” he asked, the words velvet, stroking over her like a caress.

Keelie closed her hands into fists to keep from reaching for him. He was messing with her.  It pissed her off—and, to her disgust, it hurt.  It almost felt like a betrayal, too, because she hadn’t expected to see this in Zane.

“Back off,” she warned, putting an edge into her voice and preparing herself to make him back off.  So what if he had some moves on him?  He hadn’t seen her moves yet.  Not really.

“I want…” He slid his hand down from her throat, to rest on her chest, fingers spread wide where it rested above her heart.  “This.”

The simplicity of the gesture stunned her into passivity.

She held still as he lifted his head and stared down at her.

She blinked, not moving, as he continued to stand there, his hand on her chest.  “I want five minutes of your time…over a cup of coffee.  An hour for lunch.  I want you to pick up the phone when I call, talk with me for a while,” he said, staring into her eyes while the blue-green of his gaze cut into her.

Then he leaned in and pressed a hot, open-mouthed kiss to her chest, just above the neckline of her sweater.  “I want to peel your clothes away, learn each and every one of these insanely sexy tattoos…each tattoo, and the reason behind them.  I want to know what makes you laugh, and I want to know what makes you mad.  I want to know what sort of book you’re reading whenever I’m in the office—I’ve asked, but you always toss it down when I walk by and you never answer me.”

His breath was a caress on her flesh and she broke out into goosebumps.

Her heart raced in her chest and she couldn’t even begin to understand why there was a knot in her chest.

Guest Post: JM Bray for MENDING THE SHROUD @jmbraybooks

I'm so happy to have JM Bray here today for a guest post on the Mending the Shroud blog tour!

Thank you so much for having me by for a visit today, Aria. I'm really excited about the July 1 release of Mending the Shroud through Escape Publishing.

About mid-way through writing Tearing the Shroud, I realized that the characters were not done with me. They had a tight hold and refused to let go. So, while still doing the legwork for book one, I jumped into work on Mending the Shroud. The story poured from me relentlessly and here we are to celebrate the results. If you haven't read Tearing, you won't be lost in Mending, but I think you might enjoy it more. You can find a bunch of buy links at Goodreads.

The story picks up a month later and we are instantly thrown back into the lives of Vincent, Jule, Flea, and Knife. What happens with Vincent and Jule's relationship? Is the Master, the evil force behind the Tearer, through with things? How did the events change the four friends? Who, or what, is Mr. Brown and how did he get all his wealth? Will they survive the events that unfold? All these questions and more are answered in Mending the Shroud.

I'm hard at work on Shrouded, book three, so keep your radar on and your eyes peeled for more of the Trilogy. (clickable link):

About the Book

The second in the fresh, exciting romantic fantasy Shroud trilogy takes up where Tearing the Shroud leaves off – with the lives, the loves, and the mythical world beyond our own.

After accepting bodily possession and saving the world, Vincent thought his life would get easier. He thought wrong.

The Shroud may not have torn wide open, but it did tear a little, and the retribution for the failure is coming hard, fast, and directly at Vincent and the people he loves.

His only hope is to once again accept possession from Coleman and do battle with the deformed, terrifying Kafla. But this time, he's not alone. Jule, the woman he loves and hopes to marry, is possessed as well, and together the four of them become a formidable team.

Together they hope to stave off the invasion and take the fight to the Realm, but only a supreme sacrifice can mend the Shroud and save both their lives and their worlds.

Book Birthday: FIVE WAYS TO FALL by K.A. Tucker @kathleenatucker #giveaway

Five Ways to Fall is the fourth novel in K.A. Tucker's Ten Tiny Breaths Series, published by Atria Books an imprint of Simon & Schuster.

Purple-haired, sharp-tongued Reese MacKay knows all about making the wrong choice; she’s made plenty of them in her twenty-odd-years. So when her impulsive, short-lived marriage ends in heartbreak, she decides it’s time for a change. She moves to Miami with the intention of hitting reset on her irresponsible life, and she does quite well…aside from an epically humiliating one-night stand in Cancun with a hot blond bouncer named Ben. Thank God she can get on a plane and leave that mistake behind her. br>

Football scholarship and frat parties with hot chicks? Part of charmer Ben Morris’s plan. Blown knee that kills any hope of a professional football career? So not part of the plan. Luckily Ben has brains to go with his knockout looks and magnetism. After three long years of balancing law school with his job as a bouncer at Penny’s Palace, he’s ready to lead a more mature life—until his first day of work, when he finds himself in the office of that crazy, hot chick he met in Cancun. If Ben truly were a smart guy, he’d stay clear of Reese. She’s the boss’s stepdaughter and it’s been made very clear that office romances are grounds for dismissal. Plus, rumor has it she’s trouble. The only problem is, he likes trouble, especially when it’s so good-looking… br>

Ben

I love the angry ones.

Of course, anyone who knows me would argue that I love any and all women, and I can’t exactly disagree. But I love the angry ones the most. They’re a challenge to be conquered, the reason for their fury usually fitting neatly into three buckets: insecure, scorned, hormonal.

And this chick gazing up at me with fire in her caramel eyes?

I’m betting on bucket number two.

“My, what an awfully bright red shirt you have on,” she pushes out between gritted teeth, as if she’s trying to be polite but can’t hide her disdain.

I didn’t know what I was walking into when the punk-rock chick with the crazy-ass muscular body waved us over, but her friend with the purple hair and her back to me had me intrigued. Now that I’m getting a good look at her face, I know who I’m spending my last night with in CancĂșn. She’s not what some would call traditionally “pretty.” Her eyes are slightly too big and far apart, her nose is slightly too long and slender, and her lips—though nice and wide—are on the thin side. Yet something about all of that put together makes her sexy as hell. Maybe it’s the little nose ring. Or maybe it’s the way her decent-sized tits are pressing up against me, her low V-neck tank top—a casual shirt, telling me she’s not trying to pick anyone up—giving me a fine view of her cleavage. Whatever it is, my dick is certainly pleased. “You like it?” I ask.

An irritated glare flickers to the material. “No.”

I can’t help but chuckle at her candor. “Will you at least give me a head start before you gore me?”

Those thin lip curls into a condescending smirk. “Bulls don’t see color. That’s a myth.”

The only thing I love more than an angry girl is a smart, angry girl.

This is going to be fun.

“Well, how about I solve the problem for you.” I take a step back from her and swiftly yank my shirt off, exposing six days of suntanned skin and an upper body that I know looks damn appealing because I work my ass off to keep it that way. The random catcalls from the tables around confirm it.

And then I simply stand there and grin like the cocky ass that I am as Angry Girl can’t keep her eyes from scanning the muscles I’ve honed since my college football days, her lips parting ever so subtly. I see the shift in her, the moment where she realizes that, though she’d prefer to castrate the entire male species right now, she can’t ignore her attraction to me.

At least, that’s what I want to see.

Guest Post: Urban Fantasy and Firebird Alex by Orren Merton @orrenmerton

The first novel I wrote, The Deviant, was an urban fantasy novel staring a male vampire. The next novel I worked on was a coming-of-age story about an 18-year old girl. I found writing her very rewarding, and I enjoyed writing in that space that crosses into both young adult and adult novels...but I didn’t “bond” well with the more straightforward contemporary setting. I abandoned that novel. And here I am, a couple of years later, with Firebird Alex: the first in a series that again sits on the border of young adult and adult novels, starring an 18-year-old girl —but this time, an urban fantasy series. Why urban fantasy?

Some novels explore the physical truth of our world with almost journalistic precision, and that’s great. But I’ve always been fascinated with the emotional truth of our world. And personally, I find it fascinating to explore the nature of emotions by using the supernatural.

Let’s take Alex for example. She feels alone and isolated. When she gets upset, she blows her cool. She is bright and articulate but unsure of what she wants to do with her life. She is afraid to care, because she cares so deeply. So far, these things sound extremely human, and fairly universal.

Now let’s add a supernatural reason for these things: that Alex’s father was a “demon.” This gives new depth to her emotions. She is isolated because of her very nature. When she blows her cool, she erupts in literal flames. She isn’t sure what she wants to do because she feels limited and controlled by her very nature. She’s still a girl that we can identify with, but giving her an urban fantasy twist hopefully makes her more unique.

And speaking of unique, one of my favorite things is world building, which fantasy allows me to do. There’s a reason that I have the word demon in quotes above. In fact, I created an entire new mythology, just for this series. In fact, there is an entire alternate universe of spirit beings like her father, and as the series progresses, the novels spend as much time in the spirit universe as our own.

Urban fantasy gives me the opportunity to explore not only literal truths, but symbolic and emotional truths in a way that appeals to me. Add to that my love of world building that the genre allows me, and how easily it lends itself to writing stories written for both young adult and adult readers, and there was no doubt what kind of novel I wanted Firebird Alex to be.

Alex knows she’s different; other girls don’t burst into flames when they get angry. After she nearly burned the house down when she was twelve, her mother confessed that her father was a demon.

Now eighteen and mourning the death of her mother, Alex sinks inside herself until she discovers a dagger that can open a portal into her father’s realm. Although she yearns to meet her father, nothing terrifies her more. When an unknown threat from across the portal menaces her friends and her loved ones, Alex knows she must act.

Alex will do anything to save her friends—even risk appealing to her father. She knows that to face a tormentor from across the portal, she’ll need to learn to fight fire with fire.

Excerpt

I knock on Mer’s apartment door and shift back and forth on my feet. I haven’t been this nervous since the very first time I picked her up for a date early in our Junior year.

I’ve come a long way since then.

Suddenly the door is wrenched open and Jax is standing there with a wide smile.

“Hey,” he says.

“Hi. I’m here to pick up Meredith.”

“Mr. Delicious is here for your date, tootsie roll!” Jax yells.

“I’m right here, dork,” Meredith says as she slips under his arm out into the hallway. “Ignore him. He has horrible manners.”

“Have fun,” Jax continues, leaning on the doorjamb with his arms crossed and watching us walk to the elevator. I brace my hand on the small of her back and feel the electricity travel up my arm and down to my groin. After all this time, the chemistry is still here. “You have her home at a decent time, now. I’ll leave the light on.”

“Shut up, Jax,” Mer says with a laugh.

“Use condoms!” He calls just as the elevator arrives.

“Oh my God! Shut the hell up, Jax!”

He laughs as the doors close and I can only smile in delight down at her. Her cheeks are pink with embarrassment. Her hair is pulled up in one of her signature messy buns and she’s in jeans and a blue sweater the same color as her eyes.

Jesus, she’s fucking gorgeous.

“You look amazing,” I say and rub a large circle over her slender back.

“So do you,” she murmurs and looks up and down at my plain black T-shirt and jeans. I threw a plaid button down over the T, but her eyes travel to my arms anyway.

She always did have a thing for my arms.

“Thanks for coming out with me tonight.”

“Thanks for inviting me,” she replies with a grin.

“Where are we going?” “You’ll see.”

Trailer Reveal: The Dare by Rachel Van Dyken

From #1 New York Times Bestselling Author Rachel Van Dyken, comes the third and final book in the New York Time's Bestselling Bet Series...

Boring Beth Lynn has always lived up to her nickname... until she wakes up in a hotel bed next to a sexy as sin state senator she re-connected with at a wedding the previous night.

The biggest problem? She can't seem to remember anything about the night before except for crying into a box of cookies, and she's pretty sure Grandma Nadine slipped something in her drink. And what should have been a one night stand turns into a six day adventure when Grandma whisks them off to Hawaii to save them from the ensuing media firestorm.

Jace isn't looking for commitment -- he believes he made that clear when he left the wedding with Beth. Then again, he can't remember much of anything other than the way her skin felt beneath his hands. Now he's stuck with her at some lame couple's retreat and trying his hardest to fight the attraction only a woman like Beth could invoke.

He doesn't think it can get any worse.

But one spider attack... A donkey ride from hell... And an unfortunate episode with Viagra tea -- and there's one thing Jace knows for sure: He should never have agreed to Grandma Nadine's suggestion in the first place.

Survival.

For my stop on the blog hop, I thought I'd give you an excerpt from A Titan for Christmas. Jenna, my main character is on her way to the long-distance-travel terminal and glances up at Titan's sky

Jenna sped toward the docks in her TEP personal craft. The TEP employees liked to call them Penguins – partly because of their black and white color scheme, but mostly because the short-winged craft wouldn't have been able to fly in the thinner Earth atmosphere either.

The entire top half of the Penguin consisted of a clear fiberglass bubble, allowing for full visibility all around and above. Jenna leaned back in her chair and gazed up into Titan's dim, fuzzy sky.

How many times had she stared up at this same sky and marveled at the view? How many more times would it take before it got old? She hoped she would never know the answer to that question. The gentle gold of Saturn's surface was ever present like a muted eternal sun. The rings, with shades varied from the same gold of the planet's to a brown so dark it might've been black, swept across the planet's fluid surface.

The apartment buildings flying by caught her attention and she watched them. Light shone from fewer windows than usual, but some of them featured sparkling colored lights, small artificial Christmas trees – she even spotted a menorah in one window.

The sudden darkness of the entry tunnel to the docks shook Jenna from her reverie.

Breaking Fences (The Breaking Series, #2)
Genre: NA contemporary romance
Word Count: ~80,000
Release date: June/2014
Cover by: Okay Creations

Summary from Goodreads:
All Beatriz “Bia” Fernandes wants is to prove herself—to her family and friends—though it’s hard to prove anything with an overbearing father and three famous polo-playing older brothers. After her acceptance into college results in a heated family argument, the Brazilian girl leaves everything behind to find her own American dream.

College life away from home is perfect until the people she believes to be her friends turn on her. With lies and rumors threatening to suffocate her, Bia turns to her only freedom. Riding.

But one thing gets in the way of her escape. Garrett Blackwell and his bad cowboy attitude. Working at the ranch is his obligation, bugging Bia is his newfound hobby. His thick skin and easy grin don’t hide what Bia already knows—this misunderstood and lonely cowboy fights his own demons. Brushing horses’ coats and mucking out stalls shouldn’t be this sexy, and it isn’t long before he becomes a part of her distraction.

However, escaping won’t solve her problems, and it’s up to Bia to break down the fences around her and prove her strength—not to her family and friends, but to herself … and for Garrett. Because standing on her own doesn’t have to mean standing alone.

Excerpt

I entered through the back door and halted. Robbie wasn’t kidding. They had a tall shelf filled with bottles, a mini fridge, and three coolers in the back of the stand.

I threw the beer in a garbage can, found one of the many bottles of whiskey, poured a good dose in a red cup, grabbed a can of Coke from inside the fridge, and dumped half of it with the whiskey.

“My kind of girl.”

I jumped and nearly dropped the cup. Bah, if I had dropped it, my boots would have been ruined and I would kill the jerk who—

I turned around, ready to yell at whomever, but shut my mouth when I found myself face-to-face with Garrett.

He sidestepped me and poured himself a healthy dose of whiskey. No Coke. He extended his cup to me. I just watched it. One side of his lips twitched up, and he wrapped his finger around my wrist and moved my arm, until our cups bumped into each other. “Cheers.” He let go of my arm and took a sip from his cup.

I cleared my throat and drank a big gulp.

In silence, we watched the guys lining up to kiss random girls through a small glass window in the center of the front door. One of them walked away from his turn wiping his mouth, and I laughed.

However, when I heard Garrett’s low chuckle, I remembered I wasn’t alone and shut my mouth again. I hadn’t been this nervous around a guy in so long. But then again, I hadn’t been alone with a guy in so long.

“I like your boots,” he said, breaking the ice.

I glanced at him. Meu Deus, the guy was tall. His hazel eyes fixed on me. All right. Wasn’t I just complaining that I missed flirting?

“I like them too,” I said. These weren’t my favorite, but they were close. Seeing he was wearing cowboy boots, I pointed to his feet. “I like yours too.”

He glanced down and shrugged. “Are you a real cowgirl, or is it for show?”

I raised an eyebrow. “Are you a real cowboy, or is it for show?”

“Do you always answer questions with more questions?”

I smiled. “Do you?”

His lopsided grin faded, and the shine behind his eyes darkened. My heart skipped a beat and I held his stare. I wouldn’t be the one to break this showdown.

“You—”

“There you are!” Jonah barged in the stand. “Oh, the Brazilian girl.” Really? I suppressed a groan. “Good to see you again.” He grabbed a beer from one of the coolers.

“Hey,” I said, feeling like I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

He put an arm around Garrett’s shoulders. Garrett had about two inches on him. “I see you met my bro.”

I frowned. “Your bro? As in big brother, little brother from the fraternity thing?”

“No. Garrett isn’t in the fraternity, not anymore. He’s my half-brother.”

Garrett took a long swallow of his drink and looked out the window to the front.
